The 2006-2007 school year was the first year that passing the Ohio Graduation became mandatory to pass in order to graduate. Despite this 9 of the 20 Trumbull County School districts saw a decrease from last year in the percentage of students who scored either proficient or better in all five sections of the test.

According to the results that were recently released from the Ohio Department of Education, Bloomfield-Mespo School District had the largest decrease at 16.7 %.

Weathersfield school district saw the largest boost in overall scores, with an increase of 16.5%.

Tuesday the Cleveland public schools announced that the Ginn Academy will open this August in a part of an existing school building, serving about 150 students in the ninth and 10th grades. The school district is trying to overcome their low academic performance and a high dropout rate.
Students in the Cleveland school district fell short of statewide proficiency scores in reading, writing, math, science and social studies on the 10th and 11th grade Ohio Graduation Test. Only 47.2 percent of Cleveland students met the goal in the 11th grade OGT science category. While 82.8 percent were proficient statewide.
The graduation rate for Cleveland Public Schools for the 2005-2006 school years was only 51.8%, according to the Ohio Department of Education, while the statewide graduation rate was 86.2%.

Tuesday board members in the Hamilton City School District voted to accept a 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant that is awarded by the Ohio Department of Education.
The grant could net the Hamilton City School District $850,000 over the next five years that will be used to finance salaries, professional development, supplies, materials and equipment for the HOPE in the Neighborhoods Program — an extension of HOPE School.
