OGT News: New path to teaching in Muskingum County
An article in the March 21 issue of the Zanesville Times-Recorder discusses a new program at Muskingum College for high school seniors interested in teaching careers. It is sponsored by the Mid-East Career and Technology Centers.
The program demands that the students be on a college prep track, have at least a 3.0 grade point and a 93 percent attendance record, and have passed the Ohio Graduation Test (OGT).
The Pathways To Teaching Program was approved by the Ohio Department of Education and is designed to help students who are at career crossroads, trying to decide whether or not teaching is for them.
The half-day program provides those enrolled with four or five internships at various local schools in Muskingum County. The students will observe in a variety of classrooms from pre-kindergarten to high school and work with professional educators to learn the ins and outs of teaching. Those enrolled should also be members of the Future Teachers of America.
The students will earn three high school credit hours at the end of the program. They will also receive a certificate, verifying they completed the program.
There's an open house for students interested in the program at Muskingum College on March 26.
