OGT News: High schools preparing for 2007 OGT

School districts around Ohio are beginning serious preparations for this spring's Ohio Graduation Test.

According to newspapers in New Philadelphia, Springfield and Defiance, students are beginning earnest prep for the upcoming OGT - now required for graduation from an Ohio high school.

Greenon School District, west of Springfield, is encouraging parents to keep tabs on their children's progress in preparing for standardized tests, including the OGT, via an online tool similar to that offered by IQ-ity. Greenon's "curriculum maps" let parents see exactly what assignments their children should be working on each month. The link is above.

The maps have helped to improve district scores on the OGT, according to the assistant superintendent.

The Conotton Valley Board of Education outside of New Philadelphia is working to increase testing scores throughout the district. High school students are beginning preparation for the OGT and the district has purchased multiple reconditioned computers in order to set up mini labs for that purpose.

In Defiance, the assistant superintendent for city schools told board of education members that 155 out of 194 juniors have already passed all five sections of the OGT - reading, math, writing, science and social studies. In addition, 163 out of 187 seniors have already passed. The last testing opportunity for seniors who have not passed all five sections will come in March.
