Schools in Cincinnati, Springfield recognized for OGT scores
Two elementary schools in the Wyoming School District in the Cincinnati suburb of Wyoming and a high school in the upscale suburb of Indian Hill are three of 14 Ohio schools that performed so well on their proficiency tests and Ohio Graduation Tests that they are singled out as No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon schools.
Hilltop Elememntary in Wyoming had 100 percent proficiency scores in reading and math last year. Elm Avenue School had a 97.7 percent or better. Tenth grade students at Indian Hill High scored 98.3 percent on the math portion of the Ohio Graduation Test and 99.5 percent on the reading portion of the OGT.
In addition, the Park Layne Elementary School in a Springfield suburban district received a visit from Ohio Superintendent of Education Susan Tave Zelman on December 7 to observe its 2004 recognition as a School of Promise, meaning the school met the state standard of 75 percent on achievement tests and the OGT sections in reading and math. Zelman's spokesperson said the superintendent liked the way the school uses test data to drive classroom decisions.
