Beavercreek High School seniors need to pass the OGT
A story in a suburban Dayton newspaper published on November 22 said 43 seniors at Beavercreek High School, southeast of the city, may not graduate in the spring because they haven't passed the Ohio Graduation Test. Beginning in spring 2007, Ohio students must pass all five sections of the test in order to receive a diploma.
The 43, a combination of traditional and non-traditional students from Beavercreek, as well as 16 out-of-state students, will take the test in March. A school official said the number of students who need to pass the test is reduced by half each time it is administered. At Beavercreek, that could leave about 20-plus seniors unable to obtain a diploma.
School officials are taking steps to prep the 43 students for the test, including individual and small-group tutoring, practice tests and individual interventions where necessary.
A total of 140 Beavercreek juniors still need to pass at least part of the OGT. In addition, another 19 Ohio-educated juniors from out of the district must still pass at least part of the test.
